Senior Housing Options to Produce Comedy “Chasing Manet” at The Barth (Denver, Colorado) The regional premier of “Chasing Manet,” by Broadway writer Tina Howe, is the annual environmental theater production for Senior Housing Options (SHO), a non-profit providing quality affordable housing and services for 500 older adults in Colorado.
The production is SHO’s major annual fundraiser and builds on the successful run the past three summers of “The Hot L Baltimore” (named “Best Environmental Staging” by Westword, 2008), “A Hint of Winter,” and “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” all directed by Terry Dodd.
Former Broadway actor Billie McBride plays a nursing home resident with a big dream— going to Paris on the QE2. The rebellious, legally-blind painter enlists her senile roommate (played by Carol Bloom) to plot their escape in this comedy Backstage calls “a tenderly sad and riotously funny meditation on age, family, and freedom of expression.”
McBride and Bloom are joined onstage by Pamela McCreary and four returnees from last year’s award-winning production of “Picasso at the Lapin Agile”: Larry Hecht, Brian Kusic, ZZ Moor and Joey Wishnia. A rotating schedule of Denver celebrities are also featured in a cameo role.
“Chasing Manet” performs in the historic lobby of The Barth Hotel, 1514 Seventeenth Street in the heart of LoDo. (The Barth is one of Senior Housing Option’s 14 residences and home to 62 elderly and disabled adults.) The play opens July 7 and runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:00pm through August 13. Tickets start at $25. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.seniorhousingoptions.org or call
